On March 21, 2014, police in Houston, Texas arrested 22-year-old Moses Chavez after confiscating suspected Xanax pills from him for which he did not have a valid prescription.

On May 2, Chavez pled guilty in Harris County Criminal District Court to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 45 days in the Harris County Jail.

On May 7, after the Houston Police crime laboratory reported that tests on the pills were negative for the presence of controlled substances, the Harris County District Attorney's Post Conviction Review Unit joined with Chavez's attorney to file a motion for a new trial. The motion was granted and Chavez was released.

On May 9, the charge was dismissed.
